In an important step towards a more sustainable future, Researchable has announced its involvement in developing digital twins for the production of green steel. As a data innovation partner within the Growth Fund project Growing with Green Steel, Researchable will contribute to one of the demonstrators in which a digital twin is developed to advance the production of green steel.

The transition to green steel

Green steel, produced using hydrogen instead of traditional fossil fuels, is central to the transition towards a more environmentally friendly production process. The project in which Researchable plays a role aims to develop digital replicas of steel material. This is a computer model that incorporates the material properties. These digital replicas will contribute not only to optimising production processes, but also to predicting and improving the properties of green steel.

This is a milestone for the Dutch steel sector and the wider community.

Unique expertise

Researchable brings unique expertise to the project through the combination of science, data engineering and the realisation of innovative applications in which the handling of data is central. By focusing on green steel, Researchable takes on a role in realising a more sustainable industry that is ready for the future.

Researchable's focus will be on researching the implementation possibilities for digital twins for the production of green steel, in order to make the steel production process more efficient and more sustainable. A digital twin with statistical information enables a robust process design. 'Growing with Green Steel' programme

'Growing with Green Steel' develops a range of technologies based on hydrogen, renewable energy and circular iron and steel processing. In doing so, it focuses on a transformation of the entire steel cycle in the Netherlands, with the ultimate goal of a CO2-neutral steel sector by 2050. The innovations developed during the programme have an important positive impact on the environment, the economy and society. It is therefore an essential step in achieving a sustainable future. The 'Growing with Green Steel' programme is co-financed by the National Growth Fund.

A consortium of 31 parties, led by the Materials innovations institute (M2i), developed this eight-year programme, which now begins with this approval.
